There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino wagering is not legal. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, contains 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel building that features numerous conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
