Cambodia Casinos
January 27th, 2016 by Kyla

There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel building that highlights numerous amenities aside from the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight table games.
